Linc from The Mod Squad
Clarence Williams III is probably forever typecast as Linc. Linc is the height of Afroed cool. His pants are very tight. There may be a direct correlation between the tightness of his pants and the length of his lines, but I'm still working on the evidence.) My favorite Linc line is "Solid." Williams knows how to deliver a line. When Pete and Linc give chase, it's a toss up which one of them will leap through the air and tackle the bad guy(s). Linc's speciality - and he is the undisputed master - is sliding across the hood of a car. No matter how convoluted the chase scene needs to become to accommodate a car slide or a leap, it's worth the effort to achieve the proper suspension of disbelief. Linc clearly has special stunt pants for his car slides. Often he has a stuntman who is built radically differently than the actor. I can only wonder if the producer's thought viewers would think all minorities look alike or something and not notice the difference. Linc is cool no matter what he does. That doesn't mean he's convincing, but he's cool. Real cool. |

Linc
was perhaps the most beloved member of the groovy crime-fighting
trio The Mod Squad (ABC, 1968-1973). Played by Clarence Williams
III (who would later play Prince's drunken abusive father in Purple
Rain), Linc was the hippest thing on television, from his
state-of-the-art afro to his cool threads.
